I saw an ad for a shoe
‘One sole several straps’
One can change colours,
One of life’s many hacks.
I paused, amused by the line
Your face shimmered before me
Un-synchronized in time and space
A glint, a smile only I could see.
I reached out, “I am ready,” I said
Take me away into your eternity.
Your smiling eyes never faltered
But that door remained denied to me.
I heard my home erupt in laughter
In voices both warm and deep
Crumbling away the doorway
Drying the tears I dare not weep
I thought about it quietly
My soul too has several straps
Some that keep me happily insane
And some that hold me back.
