Our worlds

we turned midnight into dawn

out of ceilings carved with music

we made atriums

out of our souls, setting them alight

in crystal wind-chimes

hung them from rooftops

so they appeared to float mid-air.

We turned baby teeth into bracelets

wore the Milky Way on our wrists

and the planets danced just for us

our bodies changing

into birds that flew home at sunset.

Our breath created vapours

that fed the seas, till the tsunami of our thoughts

let the dams overflow

and set the marine life free.

We sat in silence in the forest

our bodies rooting into the ground

to heal the core of the earth,

the wild orchids and us.

The right side of our brain

aligned with the other and we hung

our thoughts out to dry

on the washing line

When the wind whipped up a gale

we believed that the sunlight

would keep our dreams safely tucked away,

we knew ourselves as well as we knew

each other, we did not need a mirror

to see what we reflected.

Even the seas rushed into our arms

the deserts cut into our bones

and we walked like queens

upon these beaches

sinking our toes in the sand,

bleached by the sun in our hands.

There was much eloquence

and we were unafraid

of the demons and djinns

that were hounded upon us.

There was also peace

and we were certain

we would win

this time around.

BUT there was a world

there was a whole world

we failed to conquer.

And we live it now.

Wow. Longish though makes for beautiful reading. Mainly because of the brilliant imagery.
