Monster #glopowrimo #promptday18

on

For this challenge cast your mind back to your own childhood and write a poem about something that scared you – or used to scare you – and which still haunts you (if only a little bit) today.

Bolero does something to me
when it plays I am un-Ravelled
resting my head
upon upon my father’s knee
ready to slumber,
at peace with the monster.

The lilting tune,
the rustle of drums
edge this old heart
like that old shirt
I still cannot discard
hidden deep within my closet.

There is a monster
inside my closet
that has taken my heart
on a long-term lease
and every where I turn I find
wild eyes following me.

You know, every heart has a monster
waiting to pounce
waiting to reach out,
the portal creaks open
just a little bit more.
Oh, keep those old doors locked!
