Sailing

I am just a vessel

Tossed upon the seas

My fathers direct the winds

That set my nautical charts

To be free. The calm

Before the storm,

The starlit nights on board

The moon eclipsed by clouds

The smell of salt and ocean,

The wind and the seagull’s cry

Crashing on every wave, I seek

To steer to a dock where I  sleep.

I am but a vessel

Sails set on the seas

The captains dictate how and when

I crash upon the shore

Shipwrecked but unbeaten

I always pitch for more

The hull breaks and is fixed

The rudders that keep

Me on an even keel

through time and tide

I’m only biding my time

Till I crawl under a rock and hide.
